Earthquake!

Micah slept through his first (and I really hope only) earthquake! At 4:37 this morning I heard some rattling through the monitor - that woke me up and I sat up and grabbed Kevin and said, "It's an earthquake!" I still can't believe we felt it. (We were over 100 miles from the epicenter - and it was a 5.2) Micah slept through it, but I have a big fear of earthquakes (probably due to the "Earthquake Drills" we were forced to go through in the early 90s in high school!) so I was up shaking scared that a bigger one was coming. I got online even to see what to do in an earthquake. (Dork!)

And, yes, I know that all of you in CA are giggling at me a little bit right now.

  1. We were awaken by it too!! Having grown up in Illinois I knew there was a fault line, but I never thought I'd really experience an earthquake (we never did the drills). Casey, being an Iowa boy, didn't even realize the possibility. How crazy!!

Actually, a few weeks ago I was awaken in the night by my bedroom door shaking. Casey was on call, so I was completely freaked out. I figured it was just air pressure, but now I think it was a mini quake. Who knows?!?!

  2. When I was growing up my brother and I used to make fun of my mom when she freaked out over little earthquakes and screamed for us to get into a doorway. Then the Northridge quake hit California in 1994. I don't make fun of my mom anymore :). We lived about 30 minutes from the epicenter and it scared the pee out of me... literally :)!

  3. We totally felt it too -- completely freaky! I thought the only thing we had to worry about here in the Heartland was tornadoes. Yikes!

  6. Shawn mentioned the earthquake to me. He said he'd heard that people could feel it here in Kansas.I doubt that.
